Sugar & Vice Wolf Necklace – Review

Sugar & Vice are a jewellery company based here in the UK.

They mostly produce quirky and cool laser cut acrylic jewellery but have a few wooden pieces and apparel items too. They (Sarah and Matt) design, make and run the business by themselves, are self taught and rely on their business for income. At the beginning of the year Sugar & Vice suffered a fire in their laser cutting machine which left them with no income as they couldn’t produce any jewellery and a new one is extremely expensive. As a result they ran an emergency indiegogo funding campaign in order to buy a new machine which loads of people (including me) backed and that’s what led to my purchase. I know how hard it is to be an artist and to make a small business work which is part of the reason I tend to buy from these smaller companies and do so many reviews. Anyway, I pledged £10 to receive a giftcard for a 125% value of the pledge (£12.50) that I could then spend on their website when I wanted. This is the item I chose.

I eventually decided to buy a wolf necklace as I love wolves but don’t have anything with them on and finding nice wolf necklaces is really hard. (I think the fact that Game of Thrones is back on may also have helped sway me slightly in that direction too). Anyway, the website is really easy to use I just added it to my cart, put the gift card code that I got sent from the pledge in the gift card code box and checked out using paypal. The necklace was £15 and postage was £3.25 for the UK so it came to £18.25 in total. My gift card only covered £12.50 so the rest was paid via my paypal. It all went through smoothly and I had no issues at all. I received a confirmation email of my order straight away, the following day I received another email stating my item had been shipped and then it arrived 3 days after. So it took roughly 4 days between ordering and receiving the item.

Look how cute the packing is, fancy shiny packet:

Inside the packet was the item in a box, the invoice, a business card and a cute piece of rock all wrapped in bubble wrap for extra protection. The necklace was inside a plastic bag in the box to keep it safe.

The wolf uses grey marbled acrylic which makes each one slightly unique. Unfortunately the way mine shades makes it look like he has a scar across his face, it’s not too noticeable in certain lights though. Plus he’s still cute. I was thinking of naming him after one of the Stark’s Dire Wolves or scar because of the marble effect but instead I’m going to call him Shadow! The intricate details are lovely, he has a cute shaped nose, furry looking ears and the eyes are carefully inserted with white acrylic and black centres. Also due to the way the acrylic is layered it not only makes it stronger but gives him a 3D effect too. He’s really lovely. I’ve taken some closer photos to show off the nice details.

He is finished on a chunky silver coloured chain, you can chose from 3 chain lengths but I went with the shorter option. The necklace fastens with a lobster claw clasp and is finished with a clear acrylic Sugar & Vice branded tab. I’m extremely happy with my purchase, it certainly exceeds my expectations, is beautifully made and nicely packaged. I would definitely buy from them again.

Be happy, feel empowered, love yourself and have fun!

I came across this blog post today and I felt I had to share it as it sums up how I feel and this kind of thinking is the main reason I do my blog, please read it.
Blog post is here:

My personal message to my readers: I want my blog to inspire and encourage you to be who you are and do what you love. Don’t listen to all the negativity like you’re too old, tall, fat, thin, not attractive enough etc to wear that. I know it’s hard to standout and that it takes courage, but why be unhappy and not fully live your life for the benefit of strangers? You have just as much right to exist and be happy as anyone else does, don’t let them put you down. I have no idea where this ‘rule book’ came from about which types of people can wear what, what’s attractive and which styles you can’t wear once you hit certain ages etc. I certainly don’t follow it. It annoys me that as a society we seem to police people in this way, do we really want to all be uniformed and like clones? I know I don’t want that! It’s sad that people are made to feel this way and that they are left full of regrets when they get older. I have loads of regrets already about not doing things sooner and not embracing the styles and fashion I love but I’m trying really hard to get past it. I worry that I dress too young and that I’m not attractive so I shouldn’t wear certain styles or bother to make an effort with my appearance… but then I think who are they to make me feel this way? I’m worth more than my outside shell and more importantly I deserve to feel good about myself and so do you. Stick with what you enjoy and what makes you feel good, try to ignore these voices. If you don’t feel safe wearing certain things out then why not dress up for safer events, around close friends or just at home – it’s good to express yourself and feel good about yourself. Do things for you and make yourself happy, life is too short not to!

Most of this can be applied beyond fashion as well!

Extreme Largeness Jewellery – Review

I came across Extreme Largeness years ago when I bought some jewellery from them at an alternative fashion event. Randomly they just popped in to my head a month or so ago so I went to check out the pretties on their online store. It’s a good thing I did, not only did they have some awesome items in the clearance section but they do free delivery if you spend over £5 and they had a cute pink octopus necklace for sale!

Extreme Largeness are based in Manchester and their jewellery is all handmade. They also aim, wherever possible, to source their materials and produce items here in the UK!

Their website is super easy to use and navigate through and allowed me to pay with paypal. I received an email confirmation of my order which listed all the items I had purchased. Then two days later I received another email updating my order to shipped and my items arrived the following day. So that’s about 3 days from ordering to getting my items which is pretty fast.

I ordered a pink mirror octopus necklace (see stock photo above) at £6.50 and a few items from the clearance section that were all £1 each. Now, when the parcel arrived I was a bit worried. The packet used was quite small and as you can tell from how fat it is the items were tightly packed in, I was concerned they may be broken or damaged. I opened it when I got back from work and it was going dark, sorry for the bad photos.

Inside the packet I received a copy of the invoice, a flyer and all the items were just loose inside. When I checked them over I noticed that the rings had come loose from their back, luckily they can easily be glued back on and there didn’t seem to be any damage to the other items. I waited for a nice day to take the rest of the photos, mirrored items are extremely hard to photograph well…

Octopus Necklace:

The last photo shows the back and how the details are added. Although Perspex is reasonably strong the legs are quite thin and fragile so I’m sure it could easily get scratched or broken if care isn’t taken with it. The silver chain finishes it off nicely and fastens with a lobster claw clasp making it easy to wear. It doesn’t have an extender chain though so you can’t adjust the length of the chain but you can easily take off links or add extra if you wanted to. I’m really happy with it though, it’s nicely detailed and is a pretty shade of pink. Definitely worth the £6.50 I paid.

Clearance £1 Stock Items:

Items in order: Gothic Cross Earrings, Green & Pink Leopard Print Ring, Brown & Yellow Leopard Print Ring, Skull and Crossbones Necklace, Pink Freak Necklace, Green Glasses Necklace and Raven Necklace.

These were all just a £1 each so my whole order only cost £13.50 and I didn’t pay any shipping so even though the rings need some glue I’m totally happy with my order and will be buying from them again in the future!

Milk Carton Bag off ebay – Review

Hello everyone,
I hope you are having a great bank holiday weekend, the weather is sadly very mixed but I guess that’s typical. Anyway a little while ago I posted a blog about different cute bags I found on ebay:

Well I bought the cute milk carton one from this seller on ebay:

This is the stock photo:

Milk Carton bag

And here is my photo:

Mmmmm yummy fresh MLIK!

So yeah, the word milk is spelt wrong on the large and small lettering. It didn’t say anything in the listing about the error either. I paid £5.46 in total including postage, maybe the printing error could explain why it was so ridiculously cheap? Apart from the spelling errors it’s actually quite well made. The top fastens with magnetic strips, the fabric is I think a type of strong canvas over really tough card and it’s even lined. It’s then finished off on a chunky black cord strap. The ebay seller packed it really tightly with paper inside the bag to ensure it didn’t get squashed or damaged in the post which is good as not all sellers seem to care about getting your item to you in one piece.

Although it’s disappointing it has an error, it is also kind of funny plus I can probably fix it with some acrylic paint. The bag itself is really small so you can’t carry much in it but it is cute and works well for carrying your phone and a bit of cash. I didn’t bother complaining as it would cost more to send it back, it was cheap and realistically it was my risk as I did wonder why it was so cheap. I’m sure if I had complained I could have got my money back but getting items that don’t always match what you expect is a risk of buying online.
